AKRON AREA NATIVE NINA RAWLS, WIDOW OF SUPERSTAR,
SHOWS THE LOVE FOR HER HOMETOWN BY PARTICIPATING
IN "25 HILL" FILM

Nina Rawls, the widow of soul superstar Lou Rawls, has joined the team of top investors in “25 Hill,” Corbin Bernsen’s film about a boy with a Soap Box Derby dream. Mrs. Rawls grew up in Springfield Township’s Lakemore, which is just outside of Akron where the All American Soap Box Derby is based and is a graduate of Springfield High School. She and her son by Mr. Rawls, Aiden, now split their time between homes in Green (Ohio), Arizona and Los Angeles. The film has been financed primarily through Akron area investors such as Mrs. Rawls.

Mrs. Rawls said the “25 Hill” film project is something Lou Rawls would have wholly supported.

“He understood how much the Greater Akron area means to me, and he’d do anything to help children,” she said. “This investment of money and time in the film is in close keeping with the spirit and heart of Lou, as anybody who knew him will agree.”

Mrs. Rawls plans to help use her talents and connections in the entertainment industry to promote “25 Hill” across the globe.

“I look forward to helping Corbin market the film and getting the word out about what a special movie this is and what a treasure we have in the All American Soap Box Derby,” she said.

“25 Hill,” which was written and is being directed by Bernsen, began filming in Akron in early April. The crew, made up of primarily Northeast Ohio professionals, traveled to Taft, Calif., in June to shoot the scenes that couldn’t be filmed in Ohio. The crew is returning to Akron this week to prepare for the final shoot of the film, which begins on Saturday, July 24, at the International Soap Box Derby Championship at Derby Downs in Akron. Filming around Northeast Ohio will continue through Aug. 2. The movie will then go into post-production for editing into its final form. Its release is slated for July of 2011.
